Keynote Speaker: Rev. Rebekah Simon-Peter, founder of BridgeWorks
The author of Green Church: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rejoice! and Seven Simple Steps to Green Your Church, Rebekah earned a B.S. in Environmental Studies at the University of Vermont and worked on the State of Vermont’s water quality and acid rain studies. As a trained and experienced naturalist and scientist, she bridges the gap between faith and action in the care of Creation.Raised in an interfaith home, her interactions with the Jewish community have interested her in the Jewish roots of Christianity. She is passionate about turning barriers into bridges of understanding. Before becoming Director of BridgeWorks, Rebekah served local churches for more than a decade in the Rocky Mountain west. She makes her home in the Continental Divide Basin of Wyoming where she lives with her husband Jerry Gonzales. Catch a snippet of Rebekah from her Facebook page.
Guest Speakers: Saturday night’s schedule features Zane Kessler, a former staffer to Senator Michael Bennet with focus on environmental issues, now at recycOil, speaking on the impact of climate change in Colorado and Leslie Glustrom, Research Director with Clean Energy Action, speaking about ways to move our electric supply away from fossil fuel. Check Leslie out via this YouTube clip. Our final guest speaker, on Sunday afternoon, will be Senator Morgan Carroll. Senator Carroll recently published, Take Back Your Government, a Citizen’s Guide to Grassroots Change. Read a Westword review of her book here. Books will able available for purchase/signing at the event.
This award winning Michael Nash documentary, will be shown as two consecutive workshops on Sunday afternoon. This video shows us the faces of those who will become climate refugees–forced to migrate elsewhere because climate change has made their home region uninhabitable. It goes beyond that to address how the developed world will need to adapt to the massive climate refugee pressures that are inevitable. To date, this DVD has not been available through retail or online rental outlets. This DVD will later be made available for showing in congregations.
